Wildfire destruction mounts in B.C. Interior, structures lost on 120 more properties
Officials say most losses are residential as crews assess damage and continue protecting remaining structures across the fire zone.
- As of Wednesday, Aug. 5, the Pear Lake wildfire has grown to 124,656 hectares, destroying structures on approximately 120 properties within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
- Ranch owner Barb Edmonson remained at her Firefly Ranch in Clinton to battle flames, successfully saving the arena while losing the barn and 1896 historic buildings.
- The BC Wildfire Service deployed 213 structure protection personnel and 24 helicopters to the Big Bar Complex, facing aggressive fire behavior driven by winds above 15 kilometres per hour and humidity below 30 per cent.
- Smoke from the fire has shrouded Metro Vancouver in high-risk air quality, while approximately 8,000 people have been forced from their homes across British Columbia.
- TNRD information officer Colton Davies noted that recovery assessments continue as staff notify residents of losses; officials expect the number of impacted properties to rise as crews access restricted areas north of Clinton.
