Wild Waves property can now be used for manufacturing
The city says the change would not require an environmental impact statement, and comments are due before the determination becomes final.
Federal Way officials opened a public comment period on a proposed amendment to the Concomitant Development Agreement for the Wild Waves property, which would allow manufacturing as a primary use.
The theme and water park officially closed its doors on Nov. 1 because former operator Jeff Stock said the site was no longer financially viable; the current CDA was adopted for a 30-year term.
Federal Way Community Development Director Keith Niven determined on Oct. 30 that the amendment lacks a "probable significant adverse impact" on the environment, according to an Environmental Checklist completed by planner Stacey Welsh.
A separate application for the Podium I-5 project includes constructing a 1 million sq. industrial shell building for warehouse and office use; the CDA amendment is distinct from this separate review.
Comments can be submitted to the Department of Community Development by Nov. 13, 2026, or appeals may be filed by Dec. 1 with specific factual objections required for any challenge.
