In July 2020, the Gallup pollster asked more than 10,000 Americans what proportion of COVID-19 deaths were among people under the age of 24. The respondents were wrong – they overestimated the proportion of deaths by a factor of 40. According to American scientist Stephen Macedo, co-author of the book In Covid’s Wake: How Our Politics Failed Us, biased reporting contributed to this poor estimate.
