WhatsApp launches Channels feature for broadcast messages

  • Meta-Owned WhatsApp has launched a new feature called "Channels" that enables select organisations to broadcast news and updates to followers on the messaging service. The feature comes as more organisations become disenchanted with Twitter due to high fees, performance issues, and reduced content moderation.
  • Channels is described as a private broadcast service and will allow administrators to send users text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. The option will not use end-to-end encryption and store messages for 30 days, but may offer encryption in the future for non-profit or health organisations.
