Western Digital plans to launch a 40TB mechanical hard drive based on heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology by the end of 2026, with the ultimate goal of achieving a capacity of more than 100TB. It is currently transitioning from ePMR to HAMR technology and plans to adopt HDMR technology in the future to achieve higher capacity storage.
