219 of 319 Tamils in Nepal Safe, Says Minister A Rajmohan
Tamil Nadu officials said rescue teams are working to trace about 100 of 319 pilgrims after Nepal flash floods.
- About 100 of the nearly 319 Tamils who travelled from Tamil Nadu to Nepal and China remain missing following flash floods, Information Minister Rajmohan said at Chennai airport on Saturday.
- Acting on Chief Minister Joseph Vijay's directive, Rajmohan and Agriculture Minister Vinoth spent three days in Delhi coordinating rescue efforts with central authorities to locate the stranded pilgrims.
- While the government identified most group travellers, officials are still locating individuals who travelled separately from Bengaluru, Maharashtra, and Malaysia to the Himalayan region before the floods.
- Minister for Non-Resident Tamils Welfare, Thennarasu currently remains in Delhi to continue coordinating rescue operations, while Rajmohan and Vinoth returned to Chennai late Saturday night.
- The government of Tamil Nadu set up a war room to assist affected families, as rescue teams recover bodies from distant locations and coordinate identification and repatriation efforts.

Rescue efforts continue for Tamil Nadu residents stranded in Nepal. Two hundred nineteen of three hundred nineteen people have been rescued and will return soon. One hundred people remain untraced and are currently considered missing. A war room in Delhi coordinates efforts with Indian and Nepal authorities. Unclaimed bodies have been recovered and identification efforts are underway.
