Watchdog urges feds to rescind Biden’s Title IX rule
Defending Education urged the U.S. Department of Education to rescind the Biden administration's 2024 Title IX rule that expanded sex discrimination protections to include gender identity and sexual orientation.
The group submitted a letter to Secretary Linda McMahon and other officials requesting revocation of the rule titled "Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance".
A 2025 federal judge's ruling struck down the Title IX rule, stating it exceeded authority by expanding protections to LGBTQ+ individuals under the 1972 law.
Defending Education argued the rule is unconstitutional for compelling the use of preferred pronouns and altering Title IX’s regulatory framework.
