Warriors Made Calls on Young Center as Potential Kristaps Porzingis Replacement
On Oct. 21, ESPN's Shams Charania reported the Golden State Warriors have "started exploring trade routes" for Kristaps Porzingis, who is "seriously contemplating his future in basketball" due to health concerns.
The Warriors announced on Oct. 14 that Porzingis would remain out indefinitely due to a "health-related matter" after meetings with general manager Mike Dunleavy and vice president of player health Dr. Rick Celebrini.
According to ESPN's Anthony Slater, Porzingis' two-year, $40 million deal is only guaranteed for $3 million next season, which could prove valuable in executing a trade.
Team sources express an "extreme level of pessimism" regarding Porzingis returning to the court, as his continued absence from team facilities suggests the organization's patience is being tested, Slater reported.
Porzingis wrote on social media he is working with doctors to "figure out how to be fully back to good health ASAP," though there was "no indication" regarding a potential return to basketball.
