Those affected report to the Human Rights Office on torture and sexualised violence. Most of the victims are Ukrainian, but Russians also report cases.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale armed assault on Ukraine in February 2022, sexual violence has been used against civilians and prisoners of war as part of a shocking practice of torture, intimidation and coercion.
Since the beginning of the invasion, a UN office has documented torture and sexual violence in Ukraine. Most of the victims are men in Russian captivity.
Of the total number of cases reported, 89 per cent were attributed to the Russian camp, including members of the armed forces, the prison administration and the national security services, and 11 per cent to Ukrainians.
