Walmart Opens Next-Generation Fulfillment Center in Stockton, Expanding Faster Delivery Across the West Coast
The high-tech facility uses automation and machine learning to speed shipping and support third-party Marketplace orders.
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, Walmart opened its fifth next-generation fulfillment center in Stockton, California, a more than 900,000-square-foot facility creating more than 1,000 jobs.
The high-tech facility features an automated storage and retrieval system that reduces the traditional 12-step fulfillment process to just five steps, allowing associates to focus on higher-value work.
Commemorating the opening, Walmart gave $10,000 in grants to the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton and Unbound Stockton Community School. Timm Quinn, CEO, Stockton Chamber of Commerce, said the center will "create more than 1,000 jobs" and strengthen Stockton's economic position.
Karisa Sprague, senior vice president, Fulfillment Operations, Walmart U.S., stated the facility combines technology with safer operations. Full-time positions qualify for 401 matching and tuition-paid college degrees through Live Better U.
These next-generation centers enable Walmart to reach 95% of the U.S. population with next- or two-day shipping. In 2025, the retailer spent $36.5 billion with California suppliers, supporting 310,304 supplier jobs.
