The U.S. Treasury Department is going to repurchase significantly more long-term government bonds than previously announced. Instead of 2 billion dollars, the U.S. government plans to allocate at least 4 billion dollars for this. The move follows a rise in government bond yields to their highest level in a long time. The repurchase of the debt securities is intended to push interest rates down.
The relaxation of bond rates in the United States relieved Wall Street on Wednesday, after the announcement of the acceleration of bond buybacks by the US Treasury, while the dollar slipped sharply in the wake.
