The German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadeful, advocated for a faster expansion of the European Union to the countries of the Western Balkans due to the challenges posed by the ambitions of Russia and China in that region.

In the confrontation with geopolitical rivals, Europe's key interests are at stake, namely security, influence and the ability to act, said Wadeful and added that Russia and China have long sought to strengthen their influence in the Western Balkans.
