Volvo Trucks unveils redesigned VNX vocational model
The truck adds Remote Steer, a 4G telematics gateway and EPA 2027-compliant engines as Volvo targets 25% North American Class 8 market share by 2030.
On Wednesday, Volvo Trucks North America unveiled the all-new Volvo VNX, a vocational and heavy-haul truck engineered for North America's most demanding work. The launch completes a three-year renewal of the company's North American lineup following the VNL in 2024 and VNR in 2025.
Volvo invested $500 million into its Dublin, Va., manufacturing plant to support VNX production, which shares a common platform with the VNL and VNR models. This represents part of a $3 billion total investment in product development and manufacturing across the three-truck renewal.
The VNX features a D13 engine rated up to 540 horsepower and 1,950 pound-feet of torque. A new Remote Steer feature allows operators to control the truck from outside the cab at speeds up to 5 miles per hour for precision maneuvering in tight spaces.
VTNA President Peter Voorhoeve said the VNX allows the company to "hit far more segments than we have done before." Sales begin October 26, 2026, as Volvo pursues a 25% North American Class 8 market share by 2030.
All VNX models meet EPA 2027 nitrogen oxide emissions standards effective January 1, 2027. While Volvo has historically trailed Mack Trucks in North American vocational segments, the company leverages 50 years of Volvo Construction Equipment experience to compete.
