Voice of America Partners with One America News for Content Amid Restructuring
- Kari Lake, senior adviser to USAGM, announced on May 7, 2025, a partnership to provide One America News programming to Voice of America and sister networks.
- The partnership arose after USAGM canceled contracts with traditional news services amid litigation and seeks cost savings by incorporating OAN’s free newsfeed.
- Lake stated she ensures credible programming options but does not control editorial content, while OAN, known for far-right pro-Trump coverage, has faced multiple defamation lawsuits.
- Lake criticized USAGM as a significant drain on taxpayer resources and welcomed an appellate court decision as a major victory that enabled Voice of America broadcasts to resume including OAN content.
- The partnership has drawn criticism from former USAGM officials and VOA staffers who argue it violates congressional mandates for independent journalism and undermines the agency’s mission.
