Vladimir Putin Was Delivered a Tough Double Blow in One Day: A Burning Wildberries Hub and a Strike on a Giant Oil Refinery
Ukraine said the strike was part of a campaign against Russian oil infrastructure that it says helps finance the war.
- Overnight on August 27, Ukrainian forces struck the NORSI oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast with drones, igniting a large fire at the facility that processes approximately 17 million tons of crude annually.
- President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strikes as 'long-range sanctions' to disrupt war funding. Ukraine has targeted the Kstovo facility repeatedly in 2026, including attacks on April 5, May 20, June 24, and July 2.
- Ukrainian forces also conducted a 'massive drone attack' against a Wildberries logistics hub in Kotovsk, Tambov Oblast, destroying the facility. Ukraine has now taken out eight of the retailer's ten major warehouses, wiping out 81 percent of combined space.
- Finnish President Alexander Stubb visited Kyiv to praise the strike strategy as 'sensible military strategy,' while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the support as part of a 'party of war.'
- Security services prevented an FSB plot to assassinate a defense company head in Kyiv, while Presidential Sanctions Commissioner Vladyslav Vlasiuk announced plans to sanction 100-plus companies manufacturing ballistic missile parts starting mid-autumn.
