Victor Mellor Wins Republican Nomination for U.S. House in Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District
Mellor, a MAGA-aligned challenger, will face Rep. Seth Magaziner after defeating the party-endorsed candidate in the Republican primary.
Warwick businessman Vic Mellor secured the Republican nomination for Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District on Wednesday, defeating party-endorsed candidate Dr. Stephen Skoly with just over 58% of the vote.
Mellor, a 56-year-old entrepreneur and former Marine, financed his campaign with over $3 million in receipts, while East Greenwich oral surgeon Skoly reported about $225,000 in total receipts over the election cycle.
Regarding the January 6, 2021, Capitol march, Mellor described his participation as "a peaceful exercise of free speech rights, emphasizing his stance on grassroots activism and the right to protest government actions."
Democratic U.S. Rep. Seth Magaziner will face Mellor in the November general election after announcing a Thursday press conference with Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges.
Mellor, who moved back to Rhode Island last year after living in Florida, is registered as a foreign agent in Cuba, where he says there are opportunities for the state.
