- On Monday, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim returned to Taiwan after attending the Second Ventotene European Conference for Freedom and Democracy in Italy, serving as a guest of honor alongside Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung.
- The conference location, Ventotene, holds historical significance as the site where Altiero Spinelli coauthored the Ventotene Manifesto. Hsiao noted that participating in discussions on freedom and peace there was "not a coincidence."
- During the conference, Hsiao addressed authoritarianism, "gray zone" threats, and coercive challenges familiar to Taiwan, emphasizing that "no island is too small to have a voice."
- Engagements included meetings with European Parliament Vice President Pina Picierno, European Parliament Liaison Office head Carlo Corazza, and Ventotene Mayor Carmine Caputo to strengthen international ties.
- To avoid "unnecessary interference," the trip was not announced in advance, Hsiao said, referring to China's objections; she affirmed Taiwan's commitment to maintaining regional peace and prosperity.
