Searchers Comb Shore for Missing Person After Car Crashes Into North Thompson River
Crews are using land, water and drone teams as one person remains missing and feared drowned after a car went into the river.
- One person is missing and feared drowned after a car crashed into the North Thompson River in Kamloops on Sunday evening, prompting the RCMP to call Kamloops Search and Rescue.
- Kamloops Fire Rescue platoon chief Ken Hartt reported four people were in the water after bystanders jumped in, with the vehicle floating about 300 metres downstream before firefighters rescued two individuals.
- Vernon Search and Rescue is assisting KSAR on Monday, deploying swiftwater, ground, and drone teams to scour the North Thompson River and shoreline in North Kamloops.
- Two people—one vehicle occupant and a Good Samaritan—were taken to hospital in stable condition, as Kamloops Fire Rescue platoon chief Hartt urged the public to call 911 instead of entering the water.
- Authorities closed Schubert Drive between Birch Avenue and Evans Avenue on Monday to ensure safety as crews continue searching for the missing person on both land and water.
