Vancouver Food Bank extends support to wildfire evacuees
The food bank is offering temporary registration for up to six months and sending a full truckload of donated and purchased food to the Okanagan.
- The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is waiving ID and proof-of-address requirements for Okanagan wildfire evacuees who have relocated to the Lower Mainland, removing barriers for families forced to flee their homes.
- Since the wildfires began, the organization has seen a rise in requests from displaced families arriving in Vancouver, Burnaby, North Shore, and New Westminster, many forced to leave quickly without personal identification.
- GVFB introduced temporary registration for up to six months, with CEO David Long stating, "Help is needed now, and we will do everything we can within our means while maintaining our commitment to the communities that rely on us every day."
- Beyond assisting relocated evacuees, GVFB is sending food supplies directly to regional partners in the Okanagan to support those affected by the Bald Range, Quilpituk Creek, and Bradley Creek wildfires.
- On Friday, the Quilpituk Creek wildfire remains held as of Aug. 14, and Central Okanagan Emergency Operations is preparing re-entry advice for residents following BCWS updates.
