Zelensky: Ukraine's Patriot Supply Has Been Cut in Half
Zelenskyy said Ukraine has only about 10% of the Patriot interceptors it needs as Russian ballistic strikes intensify, and winter shortages may deepen.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told CNN that Ukraine needs 5% of United States Patriot interceptor stocks to survive the coming winter, with 10% allowing it to "destroy all the Russians' ballistic missiles."
- The United States produces around 600 Patriots annually, yet structural bottlenecks and global demand have drained stockpiles. Zelenskyy noted Ukraine has "two and a half times less interceptors than we had in 2025."
- On August 5, Russia fired 28 ballistic missiles at Kyiv, killing 17 people, as Ukraine's depleted stocks left the city vulnerable. Four days earlier, a separate barrage of 27 missiles saw only one intercepted.
- President Donald Trump previously offered to license Ukrainian production of the missiles at the NATO summit in Ankara, though uncertainty persists. Zelenskyy confirmed a recent call with Vice President Vance regarding strikes on Russian Black Sea oil ports.
- Zelenskyy warned that Putin wants a "quick victory" and could widen the war toward smaller NATO states in the Baltics if not pressured to stop. Security guarantees, he argued, matter more than ceding territory.
