- On Thursday, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced the state will provide an $800 credit and expedited admissions support for students disenrolled from Howard University who attend Maryland public universities.
- Last week, Howard notified 502 students they were unenrolled for failing to meet financial or enrollment obligations, though interim president Wayne A.I. Frederick noted some students misunderstood the communicated deadlines.
- While more than 200 students have since been readmitted to the Washington school, many others struggled to reach officials by phone or email, leaving them uncertain about their academic future.
- The Maryland Higher Education Commission is offering "personalized guidance" to help affected students navigate financial aid and seek expedited late admissions reviews at University System of Maryland institutions including Towson and Coppin State.
- Howard student Edric Bussie called the disenrollment "very disheartening" but praised the state's intervention as "a step in the right direction," encouraging peers to explore the nation's many historically Black colleges.
