Secretary of Education Linda McMahon Visits Rochester During Tour
McMahon said federal education funding would continue as she toured vocational labs and met faculty at Rochester Community and Technical College.
On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon visited Rochester Community and Technical College as part of her "Returning Education to the States" tour, marking the 44th stop on her 50-state trip.
McMahon, who previously founded World Wrestling Entertainment, described the Department of Education as a "pass-through entity" meant to "empower families" by shifting control to state leaders rather than federal mandates.
During the stop, McMahon toured vocational programs including a police officer training simulator alongside Minnesota Congressman Brad Finstad and Rep. Pete Stauber, discussing a "graduation-to-employment pipeline" to address workforce shortages.
Critics argue the tour rests on a "false premise," with recent reports alleging the agency has become inefficient; the department previously canceled a federal grant for Rochester Public Schools citing diversity programs.
McMahon is expected to continue her tour in New Hampshire with six states remaining before reaching her 50-state goal, as the visit occurs weeks before midterm elections where Stauber and Finstad face challengers.
