Brussels. The European Union (EU) announced on Monday that it has added hotel booking platform Booking.com among companies subject to stricter monitoring and competition rules in the bloc due to its size. According to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which regulates the sector, the EU designated a group of the largest companies in the sector as 'gatekeepers of access', which are thus subject to more stringent oversight under stricter norms.
The hotel reservation company will now be subject to the stricter competition rules of the Digital Markets Act, announced the European Commission on Monday 13 May.
