UPDATE: Vernon's ultra athlete back in the running and heading back to Taiwan
Hill returns after a year of recovery and will tackle a 10-time Iron-distance race as she aims for a record 50 finishes in a year.
Shanda Hill announced on Oct 30 that she is returning to racing after retiring nearly one year ago. She will compete in the Taiwan Extreme Super Triathlon, which starts Nov 9.
Hill retired in Taiwan on Nov 12, 2025, after years of endurance racing and chlorinated pool swimming took a toll on her lungs. Over the past year, she focused on dedicated recovery and reports her lungs are now doing well.
The continuous 10-time Iron-distance race requires 38 km of swimming, an 1,800 km bike ride, and a 422 km run. Hill has completed 175 Iron-distance triathlons since 2016 and owns multiple records in the sport.
Vernon native and Tim Hortons North Okanagan Athlete of the Year Hill says the starting line is where she feels most alive. She credits her hometown, sponsors, and supporters for encouragement that keeps her moving forward.
Hill realizes her story with the sport is not finished, and she aims to push her limits in massive Iron-distance events once again. She describes returning to this community as her heart's true home.
