University of Colorado's Coach Prime Announces Death of Quarterback Dominiq Ponder

On March 1, Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders confirmed Dominiq Ponder's death, and the Colorado State Patrol said a 23-year-old male died in a single-car crash at about 3 a.m.
On Baseline Road near Newland Court, Boulder County, Colorado, the 2023 Tesla Model 3 lost control on a right-hand curve, crossed lanes, hit a guardrail, struck an electrical pole, rolled, and caught fire.
Ponder, who joined CU in 2024 as a walk-on, appeared in two games in 2025, going 0-for-1 passing and carrying twice for minus-4 yards after debuting Nov. 1.
Sanders and teammates responded on social media, writing `God please comfort the Ponder family, friends & Loved ones`, and the news arrived just before CU spring practice Monday.
Officials note the investigation is ongoing with Colorado State Patrol vehicular crimes unit handling forensic work after responding at about 3 a.m. Sunday; speed is suspected and the University of Colorado had no immediate comment.
