The White House noted that the Colombian people took the courageous decision to elect Abelardo De la Espriella as president, who has pledged to lead a vigorous campaign against coca cultivation and cocaine production.
This news comes just a year after the decertification was known, a status that Colombia has not lost since 1997, during the government of former President Ernesto Samper
Washington blamed the previous government and will evaluate lifting the sanction if De la Espriella shows results against coca.
