Unai Emery takes Villa back to Barcelona scene of his epic Champions League loss with PSG
Emery’s Villa are second in the 36-team standings, and Barcelona has been his toughest opponent with just three wins in 30 matches.
- On Tuesday, head coach Unai Emery takes Aston Villa to Camp Nou to face Barcelona, marking his first Champions League return to the stadium since his 2017 loss with Paris Saint-Germain.
- Although Emery has won just three of 30 career meetings against Barcelona, his Villa side enters the match riding three straight Champions League victories and last season's Europa League title success.
- Barcelona's historic 6-1 win over PSG in 2017, known as "The Comeback," serves as backdrop, recalling when Emery's 4-0 first-leg lead collapsed in regulation time.
- The marquee matchup highlights a busy Champions League week where Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane aims to tie Cristiano Ronaldo's scoring record at Atletico Madrid.
- Currently second in the 36-team standings, Villa continues to impress under Emery, who has been controversially linked to the expected vacancy at Manchester United.
