Malacca Polls: Umno Tells Members to Back PN Candidates, Agrees to Joint Manifesto
The pact includes a joint campaign machine and manifesto, with Barisan contesting 21 seats and Perikatan 7, officials said.
On Wednesday, the Umno Supreme Council unanimously agreed to formally cooperate with PAS and Perikatan for the 16th Melaka State Election, endorsing joint campaign machinery and a shared manifesto.
The meeting focused on preparations for the Melaka State Election, with clear instructions ensuring Barisan Nasional concentrates on defending 21 constituencies and that all campaign machinery works effectively.
Barisan will contest 21 seats, including two for MCA, while Perikatan parties will contest seven other state seats, with both coalitions using unified campaign machinery and messaging.
Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged party leaders to conduct campaigns responsibly, calling on candidates to avoid slander and maintain "good moral conduct" without verbal abuse against opponents.
Separately, the Umno Supreme Council urged the Finance Ministry to reinstate cancelled public interest projects in Sabah and Sarawak, particularly rural development and utility infrastructure initiatives.
