IonQ’s Space Division Awarded NRO Radar Commercial Augmentation Contract
Umbra will provide assured global tasking and high-resolution radar imagery under a one-year base contract with two one-year options, the company said.
- On Wednesday, the National Reconnaissance Office awarded new Radar Commercial Augmentation contracts to synthetic aperture radar operators Capella Space, ICEYE US, and Umbra to enhance national intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.
- Describing the move as an "evolution," the NRO noted these contracts transition proven partners into an expanded role for sustained, enterprise-wide delivery of radar data after earlier study agreements.
- Following four years of performance, Umbra secured a firm-fixed-price sole-source contract, having delivered more than 100,000 images to support critical U.S. operations worldwide.
- With a one-year base period and two optional years running through July 31, 2029, the contract positions Umbra to continue investing in space-based systems and scaling services for government and allied missions.
- ICEYE US satellites provide rapid tasking-to-delivery timelines, offering the flexibility to capture areas as large as 120,000 km² or resolutions as fine as 25 cm, ensuring persistent global coverage.
