Runner Attempts World Record with 50 Marathons in 50 States
Goodge is dedicating the 24-day effort to his mother and raising money for Stand Up to Cancer.
Ultra-Runner William Goodge is attempting to run a marathon distance in all 50 U.S. states within 24 days through Mission America, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record.
After his mother died from cancer, Goodge channeled his grief into charitable work, stating, "I can turn this emotional pain I've got into something positive."
To stay on schedule, Goodge must complete each marathon in five hours or less, a grueling pace he acknowledges: "I need to do all the marathons in five hours or less to stay on time, so it's high-pressure."
His journey began in Honolulu on Oct. 9 and concludes in New York City on Nov. 1, with all funds supporting Stand Up to Cancer.
Runners are invited to join Goodge in the Atlanta area on Saturday, with details available at MissionAmerica.org. He hopes his efforts inspire others to transform adversity into purpose.
