People in the UK Found to Have the WORST Mental Health in Europe
More than one in three UK adults are affected by poor mental health, and 46% have turned to AI tools for support, the report says.
The sixth annual AXA Mind Health Report ranks the UK as having the worst mental health in Europe, with more than one in three Brits impacted by poor mental health among 19,000 people surveyed across 18 countries.
Barriers to professional care persist; 60 per cent of those with mental health concerns have not visited a professional in the past 12 months, while 25 per cent fear being stigmatised or judged negatively.
Brits are increasingly using technology as a replacement for medical help, with 46 per cent turning to digital tools for mental health support; 42 per cent trust these tools more than healthcare professionals for guidance.
Opinions on AI-generated advice remain divided, with 57 per cent finding it helpful while 43 per cent expressed dissatisfaction; worryingly, 27 per cent revealed some recommendations led them to engage in harmful behaviour.
AXA CEO Tara Foley noted that while digital tools offer quick access, they are no substitute for human empathy, and organisations must ensure employees feel supported and heard during this technological transition.
