UK's cheapest supermarket named as Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Tesco and more ranked
- Which? has identified Aldi as the supermarket offering the lowest prices in the UK for May 2025, following its monthly evaluation of the cost of essential groceries.
- This comes as food prices in supermarkets have risen by 3.5% compared to last year, influenced by geopolitical uncertainties and a £7 billion cost increase from the autumn Budget.
- A comparison of 82 essential grocery products from eight leading supermarkets in the UK found that a shop at Aldi cost £135.48, which was £21.23 cheaper than at Morrisons and £20.11 less expensive than at Sainsbury’s.
- Julie Ashfield of Aldi UK said the company has retained its cheapest supermarket position for 19 months, helping shoppers save money on essentials.
- The findings imply that shoppers can save significantly by choosing Aldi, as switching supermarkets could reduce food bills by up to 36% amid ongoing cost pressures.
