UK travel firm stops trading with flights and holidays at risk - who can claim refund
ATOL said affected travellers may need to claim through card issuers or insurers, and some bookings may not be covered.
On May 21, 2026, UK travel company Trav Expert Limited ceased trading as an ATOL holder, putting flights and holidays at risk. The firm remains 'active' on Companies House despite losing its licence.
This insolvency follows sector-wide instability; four other UK travel companies have already closed in 2026, including luxury holiday company Salamander Voyages and airlines Ascend Airways and EcoJet Airlines.
The Civil Aviation Authority warns travellers to check their ATOL Certificate, as coverage excludes certain bookings: "Bookings sold as accommodation only, non-flight Packages & cruise only bookings, which do not include a flight element, are not covered by the ATOL scheme."
Credit card users must claim through their issuer under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act; those who paid by cheque, debit card, or bank transfer may submit claims through ATOL.
Services including accommodation and transfers may remain unpaid, requiring travellers to pay suppliers directly. Those using valid flights lose protection under The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.
