Boeing reacquired Spirit AeroSystems for $4.7 billion to improve quality and stabilize production, adding 15,000 employees across key U.S. and UK aerospace sites, officials said.
- ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 8, 2025 — Boeing finalized a $4.7 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, with Kelly Ortberg stating, "This is a pivotal moment in Boeing's history and future success as we begin to integrate Spirit AeroSystems' commercial and aftermarket operations and establish Spirit Defense."
- Boeing said it reacquired Spirit to address lax manufacturing standards and defects that slowed deliveries, following Spirit's 2005 spin-off and recent quality scrutiny after a 737 MAX panel incident.
- Approximately 15,000 employees across five sites will join Boeing, including work on 737, 767, 777 and 787 programs plus fuselages for P-8 and KC-46 military aircraft.
- As a condition of approval, the Federal Trade Commission required Boeing to divest Spirit businesses supplying Airbus and carry out negotiated divestments, including a $439 million payment from Spirit to Airbus.
- Boeing assumed roughly $3.6 billion in Spirit net debt, making the total transaction value about $8.3 billion, and Boeing shares rose roughly 2% while Airbus was up nearly 1%.
