UK grocery inflation edges higher over last month, says Worldpanel

- Spending on promotional deals surged by £243 million, a 7% increase year-on-year, as households prioritized discounts over full-price purchases, which grew just 1.4%.
- Ocado led retailer growth with a 13.3% sales rise, while Marks & Spencer saw grocery sales climb 14.8% and Asda returned to growth at 0.1% over the 12 weeks to Sept. 6.
- Prime Minister Andy Burnham has prioritized cost-of-living efforts, yet consumer spending headwinds will strengthen from October when most households face rising energy bills.
