UK antitrust regulator opens probe into Google’s search services
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority has opened an investigation into Google's search services under new digital market powers that took effect on January 1.
The CMA will assess whether Google is abusing its market power and stifling competition, particularly regarding its new AI services and data collection practices.
Google currently holds over 90 percent of the general search inquiries in the UK, with more than 200,000 advertisers using its search advertising.
The investigation is part of a broader global scrutiny of Google, which faces multiple legal challenges regarding its advertising practices and market dominance.
