Uber to Cut 3,300 Jobs in Overhaul, Bloomberg News Reports
The company said the overhaul will reduce management layers and shift savings into ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi investments.
- On Wednesday, Uber Technologies announced it will cut 3,300 jobs, or roughly 10% of its global workforce, as part of a restructuring aimed at reducing management layers and reallocating capital.
- CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explained in an email that Uber's growth created "more layers, more coordination, more fragmented ownership" that no longer serves the company well at its current scale.
- To make Uber "simpler and faster," the firm is reducing nearly 50% of its micro-teams and paring back employees sitting seven or more layers from the CEO by 20%.
- Khosrowshahi said the overhaul will generate savings to reinvest in growth and innovation, with Uber committing more than $10 billion to robotaxi partnerships over the coming years.
- Following the announcement, Uber is mandating that only about 1% of employees remain remote going forward, while shares of the ride-hailing firm rose 2% on the news.
