UAB Needs the 4th Quarter to Pull Away From Samford in 33-14 Victory
Jonah Delange kicked four field goals and UAB intercepted Samford three times in a win sealed by a 17-point fourth quarter.
On Saturday, UAB defeated Samford 33-14 behind kicker Jonah Delange's four field goals and a defense that forced three interceptions.
UAB jumped ahead early behind Delange's 44-yard field goal, then EJ Reid added a 36-yard touchdown run to extend the lead before Samford's Jalen Nelson answered with a 95-yard fumble return.
The Blazers pulled away decisively in the fourth quarter; Bam McReynolds scored on a 28-yard touchdown run and Burton connected with CJ Smith for a 31-yard scoring pass.
Samford quarterback Gabarri Johnson threw for 140 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs, but UAB's Ike Esonwune, Jeremiah Jordan, and Delvon Gulley each recorded interceptions to stifle the passing attack.
UAB travels to Memphis on Saturday to face an American Conference opponent, while Samford returns to Championship Subdivision play against Southern Conference rival Chattanooga.
