MusiCares to Honor U2 as 2027 Persons of the Year at a Star-Studded Grammy-Weekend Gala
The tribute gala will include performances honoring the band’s 22 Grammy wins and decades of philanthropy, MusiCares said.
- On Thursday, the Recording Academy announced that Irish rock band U2—comprising Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—will be honored as the 2027 MusiCares Persons of the Year at the Peacock Theater on February 5, 2027.
- Formed in Dublin 50 years ago, the group is being recognized for their decades of humanitarian work spanning global health, disaster response, and addiction recovery initiatives.
- Beyond their 22 Grammy Awards and more than 170 million albums sold, Bono's advocacy helped create the President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief, which has saved 26 million lives to date.
- For the first time in the event's 36-year history, MusiCares announced that concert tickets will be available to the general public, moving away from traditional table-only seating.
- The band said in a statement that "Persons of the Year" is a fitting title because their audience has given them the opportunity to "keep rocking the boat on things we really care about.
