Kane County Cougars’ Team Bus Burns Down in Canada; Girl, 15, Charged with Arson
Police arrested two people after a 56-seat charter bus used by the Kane County Cougars was destroyed in a fire, officials said.
On Thursday morning, a charter bus belonging to the Kane County Cougars was destroyed by fire in a parking lot near Blue Cross Park in Winnipeg, prompting the Winnipeg Police Service to arrest two individuals.
The Cougars, a minor league baseball team based in Illinois, were in Winnipeg for a three-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes when the 56-seat Windstar Lines motorcoach was torched around 2 a.m.
No injuries were reported, but Windstar president Jeff Greteman estimated the loss at $425,000, noting the family-owned company has operated for 31 years without such an incident.
With assistance from Winnipeg Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier, the team secured a replacement bus to transport players to Fargo for their scheduled series starting Friday.
Police continue to investigate the blaze after taking two teens into custody, with a 15-year-old girl facing arson charges for the destruction of the unoccupied vehicle.
