Turnout will decide whether Republicans can defy midterm forecasts, pollster says
Rasmussen said Democrats lead in House seat ratings by 16 seats, but a few-point polling error and higher Republican turnout could alter control.
With less than three weeks until Election Day, veteran pollster Scott Rasmussen said Democrats hold an advantage in the House, though strong Republican turnout could change the outcome.
Economic pessimism has risen since the war with Iran began, with 45% of voters saying their personal finances are worsening compared to 24% reporting improvement.
Rasmussen noted polling errors can reflect what he calls "political gravity," where states shift toward their party leanings as Election Day nears, potentially producing "dramatically different results" in close races.
Election Day turnout in Republican strongholds remains the key indicator to watch, as Rasmussen said Republicans could face a night that is "not nearly as bad as some fear" if turnout is high.
Trump could energize supporters, though only 24% of voters now want "Trump-lite" policies compared to 38% in January 2025; Republicans could retain the Senate while Democrats maintain a strong chance to win the House.
