Turkey orders 29 more detained in widening betting probe

- Earlier this month prosecutors ordered the detention of 46 people including players, club presidents, commentators and a referee, while six suspects were sought for betting on the Kasimpasa vs Samsunspor Super Lig match in October 2024.
- NTV said 14 suspects were players in Turkish leagues, and a Turkish court jailed 20 suspects, including Super Lig players, pending trial.
- The net widened with the arrest of eight more people, including the chairman of a top-tier club, and the federation suspended 1,024 players from all leagues as the probe expanded.
- Four others remain being sought while another suspect is already jailed, and Erden Timur and Galatasaray were not immediately available for comment.
