In Tunisia, a water shortage affects several regions while the country faces temperatures of up to 49 degrees. Between power cuts, slowing down of mineral water production and stocks by some residents, the situation remains tense.
There is an extreme heat wave in Tunisia at the moment. Temperatures are approaching 50 degrees in some areas. For several weeks, there has been a lack of water in the shelves. In front of the shops, the queues are endless. In each season, they run into the shops and rush in front of and in the supermarkets. A truck carrying water packs is stormed. Other transporters are chased by dispossessed inhabitants. (International).
According to Al Jazeera, there have already been protests in the country over water shortages, deteriorating public services and high prices.
Several demonstrations, in response to water and electricity disruptions, have taken place since 20 August 2026 in the country. Encouraged by the Nafas civil society coalition ("breath"), the protest movement is accused of plotting against President Kais Said's regime.
