Trump Sends Iran Revised Peace Proposal With Tougher Terms: Report
Trump seeks tougher terms on Iran’s uranium and Strait of Hormuz commitments as officials say another round of talks could take several days.
President Donald Trump has hardened the terms of a proposed U.S.-Iran peace framework, amending the draft text and sending it back to Tehran for consideration after a critical two-hour Situation Room meeting.
The revisions seek significantly stricter provisions on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, with Trump demanding more specific language and timelines regarding how the U.S. will take control of and destroy Iran's enriched uranium stockpile.
Trump is also demanding changes to the language surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that the vital maritime corridor be permanently reopened toll-free and fully cleared of naval mines before a final agreement is secured.
The unfreezing of Iranian assets remains a major sticking point, as Trump has expressed deep concern over any provisions that would grant Tehran immediate access to $12 billion in blocked funds, a clause heavily pushed for by Iranian negotiators.
The new revisions are expected to extend negotiations through intermediaries for several days, though U.S. officials maintain a deal will ultimately be reached, with Trump warning that military action remains a viable fallback if talks collapse.
