Police Rescue Kidnapped Victim In Edo
Police rescued Michael Akano and recovered three guns, while a joint team continued searching for fleeing suspects after the gun battle.
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, a joint security team led by the Nigerian Army's 195 Battalion rescued kidnapped victim Michael Akano from the Geo Works forest in Edo State, neutralising three suspected kidnappers during the operation.
Acting on credible intelligence and technical support, security forces raided the forest bordering Otuo where Akano had been held following his abduction on October 9, 2026.
Security operatives recovered three locally fabricated shotguns, 13 cartridges, two cutlasses, and 5 mobile phones from the scene; the three suspects' bodies were deposited at the General Hospital mortuary in Igarra for autopsy.
Edo State Police Command spokesperson Eno Ikoedem confirmed three suspects died in a gun duel, while others escaped with gunshot wounds, prompting an ongoing bush-combing operation for the fleeing suspects.
Commending the joint team's swift response, Edo State Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor vowed to sustain intelligence-led operations denying criminal groups safe havens across the state.
