Tripadvisor CEO Goldberg to step down, leave board
The board is working with an executive search firm as Matt Goldberg stays through Feb. 16 and Michael Noonan leaves by year-end.
On Thursday, Tripadvisor announced that President and CEO Matt Goldberg will depart the company and its Board, remaining through February 16, 2027, to ensure an orderly transition.
Goldberg's departure follows 16 months of pressure from activist investor Starboard Value, during which Tripadvisor's shares lost about 45% of their value since he became CEO in 2022.
Chief Financial Officer Michael Noonan will resign December 31, 2026, while Chief Strategy and Operations Officer Kristen Dalton becomes interim CFO on January 1, 2027, as the company reported lower third-quarter adjusted profit.
Shares fell about 20% in early trading Thursday following the announcement, as Tripadvisor warned the leadership transition poses potential risks to business operations and strategy execution.
The Board has engaged an executive search firm to identify a successor as Tripadvisor seeks to reposition itself around its experiences business, including the Viator platform.
