Toronto FC Happy to Land Pittsburgh Defender Jackson Gilman in MLS SuperDraft
Jackson Gilman, a four-year starter and versatile defender from University of Pittsburgh, was selected 36th overall to add depth and flexibility to Toronto FC’s defense.
- On Thursday, Toronto FC used its lone SuperDraft pick to take University of Pittsburgh defender Jackson Gilman in the second round, The Canadian Press reported Dec. 18, 2025.
- A four-year starter at Pitt, Gilman brings leadership as a three-season captain and `Maybe not the traditional frame of a modern centre back in some way but he was able to hold his own in the toughest conference in college soccer,' Sean Rubio said.
- Gilman appeared in 75 matches at Pitt with 74 starts, scoring two goals and seven assists while earning ACC All-Freshman and All-ACC Third Team honors.
- Tactically, the pick adds defensive depth as U.S. international Walker Zimmerman is reportedly close to joining, and Toronto had only one SuperDraft pick after trading its first-round choice to Colorado for coaches Neil Emblen and Jase Kim.
- TFC's link to Pitt continues with another second-round pick as Michael Sullivan, midfielder drafted by Toronto FC last year, played with Jackson Gilman and provided a positive reference.
