Tomiyasu explains Arsenal exit after injury nightmare in new interview
GREATER LONDON, ENGLAND, JUL 18 – Tomiyasu ended his Arsenal contract a year early due to persistent knee injuries, playing just five minutes last season and focusing now on rehabilitation, the club said.
- Takehiro Tomiyasu, the 26-year-old Japan international, left Arsenal earlier this summer after agreeing to terminate his contract a year early.
- His departure followed a series of debilitating knee injuries that limited him to just six minutes of play in the 2024-25 season and required surgery in February.
- Tomiyasu explained in a DAZN Japan interview that the exit was a mutual decision reached after proper discussion, and it was not sudden or unilateral on either side.
- He said, "This decision is best for me, for the club, and for everyone," and emphasized the move allows him to focus on rehabilitation and himself.
- After informing teammates and staff individually with the words "I'm leaving," Tomiyasu said his goodbyes and felt supported when reminded he was loved as he moved on.
