Toddler suffers critical injuries after woman, group of children struck by vehicle in Oshawa
Police say a two-year-old girl was airlifted after a vehicle struck a daycare worker and several children, leaving four others with minor injuries.
On Wednesday, a two-year-old girl was critically injured after a vehicle struck her, four other children, and a daycare worker near Ryerson Crescent and Sheridan Street in Oshawa, Ont., around 9:30 a.m.
Acting Sgt. Nicolas Gluckstein reported the daycare worker was leading five children on a daily walk through a residential neighbourhood when the vehicle struck them during a left turn through an intersection.
The critically injured two-year-old girl was airlifted by Ornge ambulance to a Toronto-area trauma centre, while four other children ranging from three years to seven months old were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Investigators are exploring possible charges while examining speed and distracted driving as contributing factors; the driver remained at the scene, hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police are "hoping for the best," Gluckstein said, while urging drivers to slow down, obey traffic rules, and remain aware of their surroundings in residential areas.
