Prince Estate Releases Album, Timeless, on 10th Anniversary of Death
The 10-song set spans five decades and includes rare tracks recorded from 1977 to 2016, the estate said.
On Friday, the Prince estate released Timeless, a 10-song collection of rare vault recordings spanning five decades of the late musician's career. Released in partnership with Legacy Recordings, it marks the first Prince album covering every major era from 1977 through 2016.
Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose on April 21, 2016, at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. This album commemorates the 10th anniversary of his passing, drawing from recordings tracked when he was a Minneapolis teenager in 1977 through sessions cut before his death.
The set opens with the horn-spiked funk jam "I Am You," written and produced by Prince as a yearning plea for a lover's return. Highlights include the 1981 funk track "Tick Tick Bang," the 1995 R&B tune "Stone," and the 2003 soul jam "Calabama."
Estate co-manager L. Londell McMillan produced the compilation, mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Chris James. The estate also released an official video for "The Guilty Ones," featuring archival performance and music video footage spanning Prince's career.
The estate noted the project "offers a powerful reminder of the extraordinary depth, range, and timelessness of his life's work." More material from the Prince vault is expected this year as the estate continues stewarding his catalog.
The album "Timeless" collects ten unreleased songs by the singer who died in 2016. They are not discarded songs, but pearls of an exterminated music production
Almost unnecessary to say that this is a sex bomb: Ten years after the death of the great pop musician Prince, the album "Timeless", compiled from previously unreleased material, appears.
